Santali film writer Prithvi Tudu passes away, big blow for emerging performers

Jamshedpur, May 26: Popular Santali short film story and script writer, lyricist, cinematographer and editor Prithvi Tudu passed away while undergoing treatment at a Jhargram hospital. His funeral was held on Thursday night. Tudu was a resident of Chhotasti village in Astakowali Panchayat under Dumaria Block of East Singhbhum. A host of admirers including MLA Sanjeev Sardar, JMM Block President Mirza Soren, Santali film producers, actors, singers, music directors and technicians expressed their shock and sense of bereavement at Prithvi Tudu’s death.

Mirza Soren said, “The death of Prithvi Tudu is a big loss for local artistes and this vacuum can never be filled. He was a proficient and prolific film lyricist, script and dialogue writer and always promoted Santali film artistes.”

Tudu was currently working as the Technical Director as well as acting in the Santali short film, ‘Buru Banchav’ being produced under the baneer of Bongamay Production. Sunil Hansda, the director of this film observed, “Prithvi Tudu was well aware of today’s digital film platform. He has currently written the song ‘Bazar Dishom Sangat Kudi,’ for a Santali album which has become very popular on the digital platform.”

Sunil Hansda said that Prithvi had written countless songs for various albums including Gadar Baru, Leimesse Godom among several others. A huge crowd of admirers, artistes, fans local people along with Mirza Soren, Baidyanath Hansda, Sukhen Murmu, Mangla Mardi, Sanjay Kisku, Suklal Mardi, Anpa Murmu, Anand Murmu, Marang Mahali were present at the funeral.
