‘Mission Life’ aimed at pursuing environment friendly lifestyle

Jamshedpur, May 26: The Indian government has initiated the ‘Mission Life’ program, which appeals for understanding of individual responsibility. The Mission is designed to urge people to perform their tasks irrespective of their magnitude to move ahead but, at the same time, to keep in mind the environment factor.

‘Mission Life’ has been formulated by the government to inspire communities at various levels to adopt an environmentally friendly modern lifestyle. Sensitizing the public towards environmental conservation is the primary objective of this program, with special stress on the contribution of the agriculture sector towards the achievement of this goal. With farmers expected to play a lead role in realizing the objectives and purposes of ‘Mission Life,’ several awareness campaigns have been planned to be launched including in East Singhbhum district.

Framers awareness campaigns will be organized across the district especially to underline 75 general environment-friendly practices to be adopted by the farming community. These practices include energy and water conservation, avoiding single-use plastics, adopting sustainable farming systems, waste and e-waste management and healthy lifestyle.

As per the government’s directives, the Block Extension department personnel were explaining to farmers through awareness meetings on adopting various designated activities related to agriculture under Mission Life. These activities would include the utilization of agricultural residues for mulching and composting, adopting organic farming to increase soil carbon, using coarse grains and indigenous seeds and promoting chemical-free farming. Farmers can contribute to creating an optimum environment for a better future by incorporating environmental friendly lifestyle as part of their regular living.
