Jamshedpur, Jan 10: The local residents continued their protest on Wednesday under the banner of the JEMCO Maidan Sangharsh Samiti, demanding the release of the Ground. The protestors gathered at the designated office and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, expressing their concerns. Through this memorandum, the people urged to prevent the expansion of the company by taking in the JEMCO Maidan and prevent the ground from being utilized commercially.
The delegation explained that years ago, the owner of JEMCO, Inder Singh, had verbally handed over JEMCO Ground for public use by the nearby residents. The ground has been used for sports, cultural events, religious activities, and various programs like weddings over the years. Recently, the company has been carrying out expansion work, including heavy vehicle parking and storage of materials like slag, causing a complete halt to public activities in the ground.
According to information received, the company plans to incorporate the ground within its premises. This move has led to dissatisfaction among the residents as it could hinder public activities. The residents expressed their grievances, stating that their demands have not been addressed, leading them to resort to submitting a plea to the Chief Minister. A copy of the memorandum has been sent to the officials concerned including the District Magistrate, SDO, SSP, and the Chief Executive Officer of Tata Steel.
