Jamshedpur, Sept 21: Sacred Heart Convent School (SHCS) came alive with words, drama, and creativity during its two-day English literary and cultural festival, Verbal Voyage 2025, held on September 19 and 20. Organized by the school’s English Club, the fest brought together 350 enthusiastic students across grades to compete in a wide range of events, showcasing their skills in public speaking, debating, and theatre.

The fest was structured as an inter-squad competition among the school’s four teams—Crimson, Gold, Green, and Violet—adding excitement and team spirit to every performance.

Day 1: Oratory, Storytelling, and Theatre
The opening day featured the Shipwreck Oratory Competition for Classes 11 and 12, where participants spoke impromptu from the perspective of famous personalities caught in hypothetical crisis situations. Vanshika Kunal of Crimson Squad and Pragya Singh of Gold Squad stood out, winning runner-up and first place respectively.
Class 8 students showcased their talent in the Declamation Competition, with Sifat Sandhu of Gold Squad impressing the judges as “Elon Musk” and securing first place, while Violet Squad’s Koushani Acharjee took the runner-up spot.

Students of Classes 6 and 7 engaged audiences with the Spin-a-Yarn Storytelling Competition. The top honours went to Swastika Roy, while Genesis Tete was named runner-up. Adding a magical touch, Classes 6 and 7 also staged delightful one-act plays inspired by Disney themes.
The events were judged by renowned educators Ratnabali Sengupta and Madhushree Mukherjee, who praised the participants for their eloquence and imagination.

Day 2: Debate and Stage Magic
Day two saw intellectual fireworks with Classes 9 and 10 competing in a spirited Debate. The award for Best Speaker for the Motion went to A. Harshita, while O.M. Parvati finished runner-up. In the “against the motion” category, Pragya Singh won first place, and Navya Nidhi was declared runner-up.

Theatrical performances dominated the second half of the day, with Classes 9 and 10 presenting Harry Potter-themed plays and senior students from Classes 11 and 12 enacting nostalgic adaptations of Bollywood classics. Judges Ratnabali Sengupta and Priti Singh commended the students for their confidence, stage presence, and creativity.

Celebrating Champions
At the closing ceremony, Principal Sr. Steffi highlighted the importance of such events in building confidence, creativity, and linguistic ability. She remarked, “These programmes are vital for nurturing not just language skills, but also imagination and leadership in our students.”

The Gold Squad emerged as overall champions, securing the rolling trophy and guaranteeing them a prominent place in the coming year’s publication of the School Magazine. Individual honours also shone through—Prisha Sharma of Violet Squad (Classes 8–10) and Anushka Soren of Gold Squad (Classes 11–12) were crowned Best Actors for their powerful performances.
With 350 participants across two days, Verbal Voyage 2025 proved to be more than just a competition. It was a celebration of creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking, leaving both participants and audiences inspired.
