Jamshedpur: A WhatsApp message demanding Rs 5 crore in extortion from Bollywood actor Salman Khan has been traced to a location in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. A team of Mumbai Police has left for Jamshedpur to investigate further. According to sources, the SIM card used to send the message has been linked to a person whose details have been shared with the Mumbai Police by the Jamshedpur Police.
Currently, the phone number’s location is showing in West Bengal. The extortion message was received by the Mumbai Traffic Police on Thursday. The message warned that if Khan wanted to stay alive and resolve his enmity with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, he would need to pay Rs 5 crore. Initial investigations revealed that the number had previously been active near Mumbai and had even been traced to Delhi before moving eastward.
The Mumbai Police have registered a case of threat and extortion at the Worli Police Station and are treating the matter seriously. Despite the alarming message, Jamshedpur Police have refrained from commenting on the case, with Senior Superintendent of Police Kishore Kaushal stating that no official case has yet been filed in their jurisdiction.
Salman Khan had previously received death threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, and his Bandra residence was targeted in a shooting incident last April. Meanwhile, Navi Mumbai Police recently foiled a Bishnoi gang plot to assassinate the actor and arrested a suspected shooter, Sukhbir Singh, from Haryana.
