Rs 3.75 lakhs distributed among 321 deprived children in Jamshedpur

Madrasi Sammelani hosts 21st book grant function

Jamshedpur, Aug. 30: As part of its social commitments, school children from the weaker sections of the society are assisted by way of book grants by Madrasi Sammelanai every year. This initiative was mooted initially during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Madrasi Sammelani in the year 1992-93, and today is the 21st such event.  During the year, applications are invited from parents who have inadequate financial strength to educate their children, and the submitted applications are analyzed by a properly constituted committee.  The prerequisite for giving grants is income of the parents and performance of the students.

In todays gathering, an amount of Rs. 3.75 lakhs was distributed to over 321 children from 25 schools of the Steel City.  Besides this, a lump sum amount of Rs. 15,000 each of four project schools, viz: Bal Kalyan Vidya Mandir, DBMS Lilliput School, Prem Jyoti Prangan, Tribal Education Mission and Bharti Vidyalaya was extended as financial assistance.

Under the Medical Scheme a sum of Rs.15000/- is also being provided to two critically ill individuals from lower income groups.

It is heartening to note that over the years the grant for children has gradually grown owing to liberal contribution received from Tata Steel and its associated companies such as TCIL, Tata Pigments, Jamipal, Tarapoor, TRF etc. Tarapore & Co. and religious institutions like Dharma Saastha Samooham have also come forward to help the needy children.

During the centenary year, Madrasi Sammelani dispenses monetary help generously to the worthy children.  The Managing Committee of Madrasi Sammelani has also proposed to undertake social welfare activities in and around Jamshedpur in the days ahead.

Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel was the Chief Guest and Bhanumati Neelakantan Chairperson DBMS, Jamshedpur, was the Guest of Honour on the occasion who gave away the grants.

Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Chanakya Chaudhary, said that he was very happy to learn that Madrasi Sammelani has undertaken such philanthropic activities for many years and extending such grants to school children from the weaker sections of the society is indeed a commendable and noble gesture.
