Jamshedpur, July 13: In a significant step toward community health and emergency preparedness, the Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West organized a hands-on CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) training and demonstration session for the staff of Tatanagar Railway Station on July 13, 2025. The event witnessed active participation from 67 railway employees, who were trained in basic life-saving techniques that can make the difference between life and death in emergencies.
The training session was led by Rtn. Dr. Neelam Sinha, Rtn. Dr. Rajiv Sharan, and their medical team, who skillfully demonstrated the CPR procedure and emphasized its critical importance in saving lives during sudden cardiac arrests. The team also explained the COR (Compression-Only Resuscitation) technique, which is particularly effective in high-traffic public areas like railway stations.
Recent studies estimate that nearly 6,50,000 people die annually in India due to sudden cardiac arrests, many of which occur in transit locations. Experts believe that a significant percentage of these lives could be saved if bystanders were trained in timely CPR intervention. With thousands of travelers passing through railway stations daily, empowering frontline railway personnel with CPR skills is a vital public health initiative.
President of the Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West, Ashok Jha, and Secretary Naman Agarwal, along with a dedicated team of 10 Rotarians, were present at the event. Also in attendance was Mr. Sunil Kumar, Deputy Assistant Superintendent (Commercial), Indian Railways, who appreciated the initiative and encouraged continued collaboration.
Speaking at the occasion, Ashok Jha confirmed that similar CPR training programs, coupled with free health test camps, have been planned across various public service locations over the next 12 months under the Club’s ongoing commitment to community health and safety.
