Rotarians to educate 1 lakh adults and 1500 students in 2015-16

Jamshedpur, Sept 19: Rotarians are on a mission to end illiteracy in India. Rotary India has taken up the project to support education and raise awareness of efforts to combat�illiteracy in India.

With an aim to make India literate by 2017, Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West will be organizing District Literacy Seminar on Sunday, September 20 at SNTI Auditorium, Bistupur.�

Talking about the program, Bindu Singh, First lady Dist Governor District Governor Rotary 3250, talking to the media persons on Saturday said, �Rotary has taken up vow after eradication of Polio, to make India Literate the slogan is �Illiteracy-Quit India�.

The aim is to make India literate by 2017 and the effort will continue until it is achieved and sustained. The program is called Rotary India literacy Mission and the programme which will be followed is named TEACH where T stands for Teacher support..E for E-Education..A for Adult literacy..C for Child Support and H for Happy Schools�, added Singh.

Rajendra Sachdeva, President of Rotary Jamshedpur West said, around 200 rotary leaders of over 90 clubs (Bihar and Jharkhand) including Shekhar Mehta, who is heading the mission will be present as the Chief Guest and main speaker along with Kamal Sanghvi, District Literacy Chair Dr. Rakesh Prasad, A.G. Rtn Pratim Banerjee and others will attend the seminar and throw light on the literacy mission and possible ways to achieve it.

Rotarians of over 90 clubs would go back with the guidelines of the Rotary mentors and implement them in their clubs and entire region to fight illiteracy. Stalwarts of the Rotary District like PDG Vijay Mehta, Ronnie D Costa, PDG Sanjay Khemka, PDG Jogesh Gambhir and many others will be present on the occasion and share their opinions.

�This year we have set a target to educate 1 lakh adults and 1500 students in the age group of 8-13 years who are mostly street children or from underprivileged background.

We have tied up with NGO Asha Kiran to make them literate and develop a culture among the children. E-Learning kit will also be provided to government school teachers.

One Rotarian will take up the expense of one student with a donation of Rs 2100 per year. At the event Rotaract Club students of Karim City College will also present skit�, Bindu Singh signed off.
