Roshni�s eye donation campaign continues

Jamshedpur: The awareness campaign launched by Roshni on Eye Donation today covered Gyan Deep School in which thirty teachers and ten supporting staffs attended the counselling session which was conducted by Parvinder Singh Kapoor, Assistant Secretary of Roshni.

The programme was held on the initiative of Father Tony P Raj treasurer of Loyola College of Educations. All of them shown interest and pledge forms were handed over to the Sister Gracy, Principal who will have it filled and sent it back to Roshni.

Several query were raised which were accordingly taken care.They were mainly briefed about Eye Donation and Corneal Transplantation that corneas are collected only after death and not before death, there is no mutilation of the face during the removal of the corneas, removal of corneas has to be done within six hours after death, corneas can be removed at any place, no special sterilized room is required for this, corneas are of use even if the deceased was suffering from any eye problems, corneas are of no use if the death is due to Cancer, Snake – Bite, AIDS, Cholera, Tetanus or Hepatitis and there is no bar of sex and age.

They were simply asked to do one simple thing that as soon as any death occurs then close the eyes of the deceased and put wet cotton over the eyes. This will help keep the cornea moist and healthy.

Switch off the fan but keep the Air-conditioner on. After that immediately get in touch with Roshni team, Tata Main Hospital and Jamshedpur Eye Hospital whose contact details are provided in the leaflest taht have been distributed during the counseling session.

The next campaign has been planned at Amar Jyoti School, Chepa Pul, Mango on 5th April at 10 AM, organizers said.
