Ghatshila, August 29: “The role of spirituality is indispensable in the determination of moral values. The four Vedas, Upanishads, the Geeta, or, the two epics Ramayana and Mahabharata teach us the ways to lead ethical, morally correct lives based on simple living and high thinking. We learn from these scriptures about disciplined lifestyles and balanced dietary habits. A moral society can only be formed by following the strictures laid down in these testaments,” observed keynote speaker, Prof Gangadhar Panda, Vice Chancellor of Kolhan University while elucidating on the topic, ‘Contribution of Spirituality in Determination of Moral Values,’ at a session organized at Ghatshila College on Monday, August 29.
In the course of his lecture, Prof Panda underlined the roles of parents, teachers and gurus in instilling and developing ethical values that in turn lead to character building. He suggested that more such lectures and open discussions needed to be organized for proper and ideal development of youth character for creating a strong nation.
Special guest on the occasion, Prof Arun Ranjan Mishra of Vishwa Bharati University, also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, dr Naresh Kumar initiated the topic of discussion. Ghatshila College Principal, Dr RK Choudhary delivered the welcome address and honoured the visiting guests. On this occasion, the eighth book penned by Dr RK Choudhary, ‘Dharti ki Vyatha’ was released. The program was anchored by Prof Indal Paswan while Dr SK Singh offered the vote of thanks.
National Sports Day was also observed at the Ghatshila College. A portrait of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand was garlanded and floral tributes were offered. Sportspersons of the College who had participated at college, university, state and national level meets in various events were honoured with medals. Among the sportspersons felicitated on the occasion were Madho Rani Mardi (Archery), Mukesh Banra (Athletics), Jitrai Hembram, Prasad Mardi, Jiten Murmu, Madho Mardi, Rishu Bhattacharya, Dipu Bahadur, Salkhu Mardi, Sunil Murmu, Sunil Soren, Sunil Hembram, Mangal Tudu, Jiten Hembram (Football), Duli Tudu, Saraswati Sabar, Jiten Murmu, Vidya Hansda (Kabaddi), Rameshwar Mardi, Ankit Singh (Volleyball), Pankaj Das, Ashish Yadav, Suman Sahu ( Taekwondo) along with Tikaram Mardi and Sivarai Tudu in other sports disciplines.
