River cleanliness campaign launched

Jamshedpur, May 3: More than 2.5 lakh members of Akhil Vishwa Gayatri Parivar carried out a cleanliness drive in more than 6500 locations on all river banks of the Ganga under its Nirmal Ganga Jan Samagra Swachhata Abhiyan on the occasion of Ganga Saptami.

On the other hand the district through which river Ganga doesn’t flow, the members there carried out cleanliness of other rivers and ponds.

Around 100 volunteers of the outfit from Tatanagar cleaned garbage from the banks of Swarnarekha river at various places across the city. A delegation of 30 youths led by Jasveer Kaur and Shambhunath Dubey launched the cleanliness drive in Sahebganj district, from where River Ganga flows.

More than 500 members along with the support of administration, schools, university and social organisations cleaned the river banks in 18 different location spread across 40 km.

The cleanliness drive began with the rituals at around 8 am. The drive continued till 12 noon.

Later in the evening Virat Nirmal Ganga awareness rally was taken out where the volunteers spread awareness on cleanliness by talking to people about the necessity and benefits of cleanliness and hygiene near the riverbanks. With the evening Aarti the programme concluded at 6.30 pm.
