Rising mercury disrupts normal life in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: In the midst of scorching heat, the rising mercury has hit normal life in the city. With the temperature crossing 42 degrees Celsius in some regions, people are struggling to cope with the heatwave.

The heatwave has disrupted normal life with many people staying indoors to avoid the harsh weather.

The temperature has been hovering around 42 degrees Celsius, which is much higher than the normal temperature for this time of the year. The administration has also issued an advisory, urging people to stay indoors during the hottest part of the day and to keep themselves hydrated.

The situation is expected to worsen in the coming days, with the Indian Meteorological Department predicting that the temperature will continue to rise. The department has also warned of heatwave conditions in some areas, which can cause heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

“ With the heatwave expected to continue in the coming days, it is essential that people take necessary precautions to avoid any heat-related illnesses,” said an official of the local Met office.

In the absence of rainfall, weathermen predicted that the maximum temperature might rise by another two degrees in the next couple of days.

” The weather chart analysis reveals that there is no possibility of rainfall over Jharkhand in the next 72 hours. The entire state is in the grip of north-westerly winds, which generally push up the daytime temperature. Such winds also do not help in the formation of clouds,’  he explained.

 The Sonari Meteorological Centre also predicted a rise in mercury by two degrees in the absence of rain. ” We don’t see the possibility of rain. The heat wave conditions will force the maximum readings to touch 45 degree Celsius at certain pockets of Jharkhand,” said a duty officer.

Both the Patna and Ranchi Meteorological centres issued a warning of ‘Loo’ , a hot wind which usually blows during the summer. It results in heat strokes.

The heat pockets included Jamshedpur, Deoghar and several districts in Santhal Pargana region where the day temperature soared to around 43 degree Celsius today. The maximum temperature hovered between 42-43 degree Celsius in Dhanbad, Bokaro and its adjoining areas.

Weather statistics showed that last year too, a similar weather condition prevailed during this time of the season. But, frequent bouts of Nor’wester rain brought relief. Data showed that last year the maximum temperature touched 45.5 degree Celsius on May 19.
