Jamshedpur: The mood of small kids was upbeat as a riot of colours splashed at the campus of Little Hearts School, Bistupur with bright lehenga cholis, colourful dandiya sticks, and thumping music. The school hosted a garba event for its students and mothers.
Dressed in typical Gujarati sarees or chaniya choli, the kids along with mothers put their best foot forward to show their skills in raas, and garba.
Rubina Bodhanwala, principal, Little Hearts School said that they celebrate every festival at the campus to make kids understand the importance of rich culture and heritage. The best part of our celebration is that we have maintained the tradition and custom involved in the festival. Garba is the most popular womens folk dance of Gujarat. Our students also performed on the folk songs to celebrate the occasion, she said.
Navratri marks the victory of the adishakti over demon Mahishasur after a battle which lasted nine days and nights. In the city the celebrations are more traditional with the thrust on cultural and religious programmes with the Bengali community adding another dimension to the celebrations by organising their traditional Durga Puja.
