Ranchi, July 23: State Congress President Rajesh Thakur has criticized the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, calling it a “disappointment” for Jharkhand. Thakur accused the BJP of using the budget to “avenge its defeat” in the Lok Sabha elections by neglecting Jharkhand.

He expressed astonishment at the minimal allocation for education and health, citing that only 1-2% of the total budget is devoted to these crucial sectors. Thakur also pointed out the budget’s failure to address the slowdown in private consumption and the closure of 24 lakh productive companies between 2016 and 2022, criticizing the lack of concrete measures beyond credit guarantees.

Thakur lamented the absence of direct provisions to alleviate farmer distress and criticized the budget for benefiting the corporate sector rather than providing relief to common consumers facing inflation. He also noted that the budget does not offer support for government jobs, pushing the youth to rely on the private sector for employment.

Overall, Thakur deemed the budget as prioritizing political power over the welfare of the people.
