Another feather in the cap of JRD Tata Sports Complex: Chanakya Chaudhary
Jamshedpur, March 12: The newly renovated Mohan Ahuja Badminton Stadium has officially reopened its doors to the public. The grand unveiling ceremony, marked by fanfare and excitement, showcased the culmination of months of meticulous refurbishment to transform the stadium into a state-of-the-art sports arena. The Mohan Ahuja Badminton stadium has undergone a significant upgrade to meet the standards set by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

Located in the heart of the city near JRD Tata Sports Complex, Mohan Ahuja Stadium stands as a testament to the fervent spirit of athletic competition. The extensive renovation has modernized the infrastructure which now stands as a state-of-the-art facility, ready to host a myriad of sporting events.

Tata Steel and the Jharkhand Badminton Association (JBA) collaborated to upgrade the facilities at the stadium.
The facility was inaugurated by Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel on Tuesday. Also present were Prabhakar Rao, Secretary, Jharkhand Badminton Association.

The highlight of the renovation includes the refurbishment of the three badminton courts with brand new wooden flooring and state-of-the-art 700 lux sports arena lighting. These enhancements are aimed at providing players with world class facilities for optimal performance.
In addition to the court upgrades, an additional viewing gallery has been constructed to enhance the spectator experience.
Moreover, the Mohan Ahuja Stadium has now been integrated with the JRD Tata Badminton training centre. This integration not only brings together two renowned badminton facilities but also offers modern amenities for both spectators and players alike.
Chanakya Chaudhary, speaking to the media after the inauguration, expressed, “We are rewriting history. The past is behind us, and together we will progress towards the betterment of badminton.” He emphasized the commitment to advancing the sport and acknowledged the collaborative efforts that led to the successful renovation of the stadium.
It is worth mentioning that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Tata Steel and the Jharkhand Badminton Association on January 26, 2022 for the development of badminton as a sport at Tata Steel’s Badminton Training Center and Mohan Ahuja Badminton Stadium.
Chaudhary added, “Mohan Ahuja Badminton Stadium has gone through ups and downs, but the renovation of the facility will witness diversity and inclusivity. This is another feather in the cap of JRD Tata Sports Complex.”
Badminton is by some estimates, the most widely played sport in the world after soccer. Its popularity in the city has grown manifold.
