Record 284 players compete in JOGGA Chess tourney at Kavyapta Global School Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Aug 30: JOGGA Inter-School Chess Tournament 2025 began at Kavyapta Global School, which created history with the highest-ever participation in a JOGGA chess event. A record 284 young players from leading schools across the region competed, making it the largest chess gathering under JOGGA’s banner.

The two-day championship opened with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by vibrant cultural performances by Kavyapta students. The highlights included a classical fusion dance themed on chess moves and a lively act symbolizing the competitive spirit of the game.

The stage was graced by Chief Guest, International Master and FIDE Trainer, Neeraj Kumar Mishra, who inspired the young players with his words. “Chess is not only a sport, but a way of sharpening your mind and spirit. The greatest move you can make is to think for yourself,” he said, encouraging students to rely on their own skills rather than shortcuts.

Guest of Honour, Firoze Khan, Vice President of JOGGA and Tata Steel Administrator, praised the organizers for providing excellent management and world-class facilities for the tournament.

IA Chandan Kumar Prasad, Tournament Technical Director, and IA Jayant Kumar Bhuyan, Chief Arbiter were also felicitated for their technical expertise and support. The honours were presented by Sunita Sinha (Creative Director), Akshay Agarwal (Excellence Director), and Raja Bhattacharjee (Vocational Director).

In her address, Principal Director Kabita Agrawal reminded the players that the true essence of chess lies in learning. “Chess is a dialogue without words, a battle of wits where every move tells a story. Great players learn more from their defeats than from their victories,” she said.

The tournament will conclude with the closing ceremony on August 30 at the Kavyapta Global School campus.
