Jamshedpur, Oct. 27: The peace and tranquility of the city was rattled by gun shots when unidentified criminals shot at and injured a 35-year-old man named Duryodhan Gope near his house near Vijaya Gardens under the jurisdiction of the Birsanagar police station area on Tuesday morning.
Gope, who is a son of real estate developer Ramni Gope, sustained three bullets in his face.
According to information Gope, a businessman, was reading a newspaper sitting in front of his house, when the incident occurred.
The bike-borne criminals fled from the spot immediately, leaving Gope in a pool of blood. The victim’s family members and some neighbours rushed him to Tata Main Hospital, where he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Gope’s condition was stated to be critical.
Officer-in-charge, Birsanagar police station, U. K. Chowdhury, said as the news spread, a police party rushed to the spot, but by that time the victim’s family members had rushed him to the hospital.
“As per initial investigation, the victim was reading newspaper sitting on a chair in front of his house at about 6.30 am, when two bike-borne criminals fired at him. One of them, who was a pillion-rider, opened fired at Gope and fled the scene,” said Chowdhury. The police collected three empty-cartridges from the crime spot.
Gope would manage the family business of running a video cable network at Birsanagar in addition to looking after the real estate business that his father Ramni Gope had started a decade ago.
Police suspect the hand of one Suresh Gope behind the murderous attempt on Gope and have started probing into the incident keeping in mind the past record of Ramni Gope and his rival Suresh Gope.
There is a clash between Ramni Gope and Suresh Gope is a sequel to real estate business and deals in selling government land along the banks of the Subarnarekha River.
It may be recalled that in June this year the criminals sent by Gope’s rival gang had shot at and tried to kill Ramni Gope near his office at Baridih market.
