Ranchi, July 27: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) produced Real Estate businessman Kamlesh Kumar in the special court of Ranchi under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) amid tight security on Saturday.
During the court proceedings, the agency requested remand for Kamlesh to facilitate further questioning. The court subsequently sent Kamlesh to Birsa Munda Central Jail in Hotwar under judicial custody. A hearing regarding Kamlesh’s remand is scheduled for Monday.
The ED had raided Kamlesh’s rented flat on June 21 in connection with a land scam case, where they recovered ₹1 crore in cash and 100 rifle bullets. Following this, the ED requested that an FIR be lodged against Kamlesh under the Arms Act at Kanke police station in Ranchi.
Despite receiving five summonses from the ED to appear for questioning, Kamlesh did not comply. After issuing a sixth summons, Kamlesh finally appeared at the ED office on Airport Road on Friday afternoon.
The ED interrogated Kamlesh for approximately six hours, but he failed to provide clear answers to their questions. Consequently, the ED arrested Kamlesh late Friday night.
