Ranchi Airport extends free parking time to ease congestion

Ranchi, April 24: Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi will implement changes in its vehicle movement and parking arrangements starting May 1, aimed at addressing increasing congestion issues. The airport management has allocated additional parking space for 350 vehicles in front of the old terminal building to alleviate congestion near the passenger terminal.

Effective May 1, the airport will extend the free parking time for private vehicles from 8 to 10 minutes. Furthermore, a fixed automatic system for parking charges will be implemented in future. Measures will also be taken in collaboration with the district administration to curb unauthorized vehicle parking.

Under the revised traffic and parking system, the entry route inside the airport will now serve as the exit route. Additionally, the maximum free time for pickup and drop in front of the terminal building has been set at 5 minutes, included in the total 10-minute free parking duration.

For vehicles parking beyond two hours, a fee of Rs 10 per hour will be charged for four-wheelers and Rs 5 per hour for two-wheelers. A fixed fee of 300 percent slab will be applicable for parking from seven hours to 24 hours.

The airport will feature three lanes in front of the terminal building, with lane one allowing 10 minutes of free parking for private vehicles. Vehicles exceeding this time limit in lane two will be charged Rs 30, while lane three will charge fees based on the parking duration for commercial vehicles.
