Jamshedpur: Concerns have surfaced over the smooth conduct of Ram Navami celebrations in the city, as the Jamshedpur Central Ram Navami Akhara Samiti has flagged an acute shortage of cooking gas cylinders required for preparing bhog (prasad) for devotees.
Samiti president Arun Singh met Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi and apprised him of the situation. He stated that serving bhog to Ram devotees is a long-standing and deeply revered tradition observed by various akharas during the festival. However, this year, local gas agencies have reportedly failed to ensure the supply of LPG cylinders to the organisers, creating a major hurdle in continuing the practice.
Highlighting the urgency, Singh urged the district administration to intervene and facilitate the availability of gas cylinders at reasonable rates.
He requested that large akhara committees be provided with at least five cylinders each, while smaller committees should receive three cylinders to meet their requirements.
“If timely support is not extended, it will be difficult for organisers to maintain the tradition of serving prasad to thousands of devotees,” he said.
Apart from the gas supply issue, Singh also drew attention to the upcoming conclusion of the Gangaur festival on March 21. The event, organised by women from the Marwari community, will culminate at the Subernarekha river ghat in Sakchi.
He appealed for proper arrangements, including cleanliness, security, and adequate lighting at the venue to ensure a safe and smooth conduct.
The Samiti requested that concerns submitted by akhara committees to the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) and local police stations be addressed promptly. Timely resolution of these issues, Singh emphasized, is essential for the successful and peaceful conduct of Ram Navami festivities across the city.
