Jamshedpur, March 21: Fuel prices have increased in Jamshedpur following a global surge triggered by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The rise has particularly affected premium petrol and industrial diesel, putting pressure on the city’s industrial sector.
Oil marketing companies have raised the price of premium petrol by up to ₹2.35 per litre, while diesel used for industrial purposes has seen a steep hike of ₹22 per litre. However, there has been no change in the price of regular petrol.
According to local petrol pump operator, Indian Oil’s XP-95 petrol now costs ₹106.60 per litre, up from ₹104.57. Bharat Petroleum’s premium ‘Speed’ petrol has increased from ₹104.68 to ₹106.72 per litre, marking a rise of ₹2.04. Similarly, Hindustan Petroleum’s premium fuel ‘Power’ has also become costlier.
The sharp increase in industrial diesel prices is expected to hit Jamshedpur’s industries hard. Diesel is widely used by factories, telecom towers, and other establishments for power generation. With fuel costs rising significantly, production expenses for companies are likely to go up.
Experts believe that this increase may eventually lead to higher prices of goods and services, indirectly affecting common consumers. The surge in fuel prices is linked to disruptions in global crude oil supply caused by tensions involving Iran and the US-Israel alliance.
Despite the situation, government officials have assured that there is no shortage of fuel in India and that oil companies are keeping a close watch on supply and pricing trends.
