Jamshedpur, March 21: The Tata Steel Foundation (TSF), in collaboration with the Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training, Punjab, has launched a focused skill development initiative in Ludhiana to strengthen industry-oriented electrical training for youth.
Under this programme, modern electrical laboratories have been set up at Government ITIs on Gill Road and in Samrala, with equipment support from Schneider Electric. These labs aim to improve practical learning and bridge the gap between classroom education and industry requirements.
The Electrical Lab at ITI Gill Road was recently inaugurated in the presence of Principal and Deputy Director Baljinder Singh, IMC Chairman Charanjit Singh Vishvkarma, and Vice Principal Baljinder Singh. Several community representatives, along with officials from Tata Steel and Tata Steel Foundation, including CEO Sourav Roy, were also present.
The initiative focuses on hands-on training in key areas such as house wiring, troubleshooting, pipe and batten wiring, solar water pumping systems, motor operations, and hybrid solar systems with energy storage. So far, 64 students have benefited from the programme, including 44 at Gill Road and 20 at Samrala.
In addition to technical training, TSF is also providing employability skills to students. Around 1,580 learners across both ITIs have been trained in communication skills, basic English, digital literacy, career readiness, and workplace values.
The programme also supports Punjab government initiatives and includes industrial visits to give students real-world exposure.
Speaking on the occasion, TSF CEO Sourav Roy said the initiative reflects the Foundation’s commitment to strengthening the skilling ecosystem and preparing youth for industry demands. He added that the effort aims to build confidence among young people and help them contribute to regional growth.
The initiative marks an important step towards enhancing skill-based education in Ludhiana.
