Jamshedpur: Hundreds of women from Rajdoha village of Jadugora here on Monday took out a procession to demand ban on liquor. They marched through the road from the village up to Jadugora PS demanding measures to stop distillation and sale of liquor in the village and its adjoining areas.
Leading the agitation, Anita Murmu said the women not only demanded ban on alcohol, but also sought prohibition on other addictive substances such as ganja and hooch made of mahua and illegal activities like gambling.
The campaign started at Rajdoha Middle School where many women having lost their near and dear ones to the obnoxious habit of alcoholism also joined the cause. Around 108 women earlier held a meeting to plan strategy to wage the battle against alcoholism.
Among others who participated in the campaign included Mayno Murmu, Sumitra Hansda, Madho Hansda, Sita Hansda, Samanti Patro, Sumita Sardar, Anita Kansari, Seema Patro, Deepali Patro, Sapna Soren and Anjali Murmu.
