Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum District Marwari Sammelan will host the “Rajasthan Mahotsav-cum-Fair 2026” at Bistupur’s Gopal Maidan from May 17 to May 19. The three-day festival, themed “A Confluence of Valour, Culture, and Heritage,” returns to this historic venue after several years to showcase the traditions, arts, and cuisine of Rajasthan.
Renowned Folk Artists and Musical Theatre
The festival features a lineup of celebrated performers:
-
May 17: Noted folk singer Sanjay Mukundgarh will open the event with a traditional musical performance.
-
May 18: The theatre group Turnan Tales will stage “Shakespeare Mharo Jamai,” a satirical Marwari musical play written and directed by Dhumit Chauhan.
-
May 19: “Maru Kokila” Seema Mishra, known as the “Nightingale of the Desert,” will headline the concluding day.
Heritage, Cuisine, and Handicrafts
District President Mukesh Mittal stated that the Mahotsav serves as a celebration of unity and cultural identity. Beyond the stage performances, the fair will feature authentic Rajasthani food stalls, traditional folk dance displays, and handicraft exhibitions. Organizers have also arranged a special souvenir publication, edited by Mamchand Agarwal ‘Vasant’ under the guidance of Hari Mittal, to mark the occasion.
A Growing Regional Attraction
While previous editions took place at Dhalbhum Maidan and Kadma Ganesh Puja Maidan, the move to Gopal Maidan marks a significant scale-up for the event. Mittal credited community stalwarts such as Sitaram Rungta, Satyanarayan Mittal, and Chimanlal Bhalotia for establishing this tradition, which now draws interest from artists and visitors across Jharkhand.
