Jamshedpur: 50 Teams Formed to Protest Train Delays

Jamshedpur: The Rail Yatri Sangharsh Samiti will form 50 volunteer teams to protest the prioritization of freight trains over passenger services. During a meeting at the Bistupur office of Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy, the committee outlined a phased agitation against the Chakradharpur Division.

The committee plans to launch a signature campaign on Sunday, April 26. Members will be stationed at railway platforms to collect signatures from arriving and departing passengers. The collected documents will be sent to the Governor of Jharkhand and the Union Government to demand improvements in rail operations.

MLA Saryu Roy questioned the current operational policies of the railway administration. He noted that passenger trains are frequently halted to allow freight trains to pass, despite the lack of public schedules for cargo movements.

“If there is a circular from the Railway Board or the Division level that mandates prioritizing goods trains over passengers, the authorities must make it public,” Roy said. He also called for an assessment of the impact these delays have on the residents of Jamshedpur.

Coordinator Shiv Shankar Singh stated that the campaign would include the installation of large boards at the station for passengers to sign. Volunteers will also distribute information pamphlets across platforms to record passenger experiences.

A preparatory meeting is scheduled for April 23 to finalize the distribution of duties among the 50 groups. Leaders from AJSU and JD(U) confirmed their participation, stating that the movement aims to address the rising frequency of delays reported across social media and local news.
