Jamshedpur: The body of Rahul Mukhi, 14, resident of Jugsalai Harijan Busti, was fished out of Kharkai river from Sonari on Sunday. The body was found caught up in the bushes at the Swarnarekha riverbank near Roopnagar Busti.
Sources said the residents of Roopnagar informed Sonari police about the minor’s body lying on the riverbank. Sonari police officials informed Jugsalai police about the incident. Soon cops reached the riverbank and took the body out of the river. The body was sent to MGM Medical College for postmortem examination.
Rahul had drowned in the Kharkai yesterday while taking bath near Shiv Ghat in Jugsalai. His father, Ladru Mukhi, in an attempt to search his drowning son, drowned in the river the same day. Ladru’s body was taken out of the river yesterday.
The last rites of the father-son duo were performed together. Ladru earned his living by picking plastic waste.
Meanwhile, the residents of Harijan Busti demanded compensation to the next of kin of the deceased. They alleged that the district administration had failed to arrange for divers to save the drowning man and his son. They said the divers turned up eight hours after the incident.
