Jamshedpur, May 10: On the second day of the three day celebration of Rabindranath Tagore’s 161st birth anniversary hosted by Tagore Society, students and teachers of Tagore Academy presented dance dramas including Chitrangada, Shyama and Chandalika that projected the Bard’s concern for women. Tagore’s writings in this genre elicit thoughts on drawing out women from the mundane world of the kitchens on to the broader spectrum of life beyond the clutter of utensils. Aptly captioned, ‘Nritya, Geeti, Lekha,’ the second day of the birth anniversary celebrations of Bishsho Kobi at the Rabindra Bhawan auditorium was a delightful rendezvous with the literary genius’ immortal works.
General Secretary of Tagore Society, Ashis Chowdhury said, “The Nobel Laureate who was a strong advocate for women’s emancipation, composed songs, poems, dance dramas and essays in tribute to them. His respect for women and his concern for their freedom from the confines of kitchens, remain as motivational factors for people desirous of giving a pedestal of honour to the tribe of loving mothers, a pedestal as high as that of their men folk.” The second day’s events were a testimonial to Ashis Chowdhury’s observation on the immortal Rabindranath Tagore.
