Quality professionals needed for development: RS Sharma

Ranchi: The Chief Secretary R.S. Sharma today said that the Prime Minister Rural Development Fellowship (PMRDF) must have a holistic concept for formulation of various policies. He said that PMRDF objective is to create a resource pool of high quality development professionals ready to serve in underdeveloped districts and interface with the poor.

Mr Sharma said this during a review meeting of PMRDF held today at Project Building. He said that PMRDF is an extremely good initiative of the Ministry of Rural Development, which focuses on reducing poverty and improving lives of people in rural India.

The PMRD Fellows work closely with the District Magistrates of backward and remote districts in improving programme delivery and interface with marginalized sections, aiming to reduce the developmental and governance deficits, he said.

The former West Bengal Additional Chief Secretary M.N. Roy at the meeting focused on visualizing the scope of work in Integrated Action Plan (IAP) districts of Jharkhand.

He said that PMRDF scheme has the twin objective of providing short-term catalytic support to the District Administration in IAP districts as well as to develop a cadre of development facilitators who would be available as a ready resource for rural development over a long term.

The, State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) Director R.P. Singh along with other officials were present at the meeting.
