MLA Purnima Sahu Raises B.Ed. Scholarship Issue in House

Jamshedpur: On the third day of the fifth session of the Jharkhand Assembly, Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu raised the grievances of students pursuing B.Ed. degrees in the state. Drawing the government’s attention to the financial distress of the students, she highlighted that despite completing their first semester, many have yet to receive their scholarship amounts through the E-Kalyan portal.

The MLA emphasized that the persistent delay in scholarship disbursements has pushed students into a financial crisis, severely affecting their academic progress. She pointed out a distressing irony: while students are struggling to meet basic expenses due to pending funds, they are simultaneously being pressured by institutions to deposit fees for the upcoming semester.

Addressing the Speaker, Sahu demanded that the concerned ministry issue clear directives to exempt B.Ed. students from paying fees until the scholarship amounts are credited to their respective bank accounts. She asserted that the government must ensure that financial constraints do not become a barrier to education, especially for the state’s future educators.

In addition to student welfare, MLA Purnima Sahu also questioned the government’s apathy toward the State Women’s Commission. She informed the House that the functioning of the commission has been completely paralyzed due to the chairperson’s post lying vacant for a prolonged period. This administrative vacuum has brought the hearing of cases related to women’s grievances to a standstill.

Sahu noted that thousands of women across the state are suffering and facing immense hurdles in their quest for justice due to this inactivity. She urged the government to immediately appoint a chairperson and reactivate the commission to provide an effective platform for women to seek redressal for harassment and other issues.
