Jamshedpur, June 9: Tension prevailed at Tatanagar Railway Station and Tata Main Hospital (TMH) on Tuesday too after the family members and supporters of a railway yard worker, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an electrocution accident during maintenance work on a Vande Bharat train, staged protests demanding compensation and employment for one of his dependents.
The deceased, a resident of Jamda area in East Singhbhum district, had suffered severe electric shock while carrying out air-conditioning repair work on a Vande Bharat rake at the Tatanagar railway yard a few days ago.

Following the accident, he was initially admitted to Sadar Hospital and later shifted to TMH due to his critical condition. After battling for life for nearly a week, he died during treatment.
The worker’s death triggered widespread outrage among family members and local residents, who alleged negligence and inadequate support following the accident. The deceased was reportedly the sole breadwinner of his family, and his untimely demise has plunged the household into financial uncertainty.
A tense situation developed at TMH when the family arrived to receive the body. Relatives alleged that they were asked to sign a document stating that they would not stage any protest or demand compensation in the future.
The claim sparked anger among family members and local residents, who raised slogans and protested within the hospital premises. Following prolonged discussions, the situation was brought under control and the body was eventually handed over to the family.
Later in the day, the deceased’s relatives, local residents and supporters reached Tatanagar Railway Station with the body and launched a demonstration demanding adequate compensation and a job for one family member.
Protesters raised slogans against the railway administration and sought justice for the bereaved family.
As the protest intensified, personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) were deployed to maintain law and order.
A brief altercation reportedly took place between protesters and police personnel, following which the crowd was dispersed. Police officials maintained that necessary measures were taken to ensure public safety and prevent disruption to railway operations.
Senior railway officials reached the spot and initiated talks with the agitating family members and local representatives.
Till the filing of this report, discussions were underway and the protest continued.
For the past two days, villagers, local women, supporters and public representatives, including the area’s Zila Parishad member, have been staging demonstrations seeking a fair inquiry into the accident, accountability for those responsible, adequate compensation for the family and permanent employment for one dependent of the deceased.
The incident has sparked grief and resentment in the region, with residents demanding that the authorities provide immediate relief to the family and ensure that workplace safety standards are strictly enforced to prevent such tragedies in future.
