Jamshedpur: The pace of development in the three districts of Kolhan division is not up to the mark. Many projects are pending in East Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan and West Singhbhum. The progress of the projects is below satisfactory level.
There is need to enhance the willpower to complete the pending development works. This was observed by Sunil Kumar Burnwal, the secretary of Jharkhand state welfare department and the former DC of East Singhbhum, on his visit to the city on Monday.
Burnwal held a meeting with the welfare department officials of the three districts and took stock of the status of development works. He was accompanied by Shravan Sai, state Adivasi welfare commissioner. He told the district authorities that they could give suggestions to the state welfare department for making necessary changes in the government orders in order to ensure speedy completion of the pending projects.
Speaking to scribes at Circuit House after the meeting, Burnwal said his department was paying special attention to the schemes related to construction of hostels, Birsa Awas, GNM school and hospital. These projects are pending for the last three to four years. The work of distribution of scholarships, stipend and bicycles is also going very slow, he said.
Burnwal further said that the welfare department had got Rs 850 crore in the current fiscal year. In the last seven months, only 20 per cent of the amount has been spent by the department, he said.
The department has got timely funds. The scholarships will be disbursed online to the bank accounts of students directly. This will be done by December, said Burnwal.
The welfare secretary said new projects will be implemented after the Model Code of Conduct ceases to be in effect post Assembly polls.
