Production in closed Jadugora mines to start soon: Asnani

Jamshedpur, Sep. 10: The new Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL), Dr CK Asnani, today said that the closed uranium mines of Jadugora will be revived in the next couple of months.

�We expect the production to begin soon after the mines are restarted. The company officials are leaving no stone unturned to make this possible. We are doing every bit to begin production in the closed mines as soon as possible,� the CMD told scribes in his first press conference held after joining UCIL on 1st September last.

Asnani said he was working on a blueprint to take UCIL on the path of progress in the next four years. He said his top priorities would be to restart the closed mines, increasing production from new sources of uranium and enhancing the production capacity.

The UCIL CMD said that a rise in uranium production would greatly benefit the country as well as the country.

Speaking about the pending salary revision agreement with UCIL workers, he said all promises will be kept. He said the file related to the issue had reached the Prime Minister�s Office. Decisions taken by the PMO will be implemented thereafter, he said.

Asnani went on to inform that production from uranium sources situated outside Jharkhand had started. �Production has started in Tumrapalli and the target of double production will be achieved in the next five months or so,� he said.

Several senior UCIL employees were present at the press conference. They included the CM AK Sarangi, SK Srivastava, VC Gupta, GC Nayak, S Panda and Stalin Hembram.
