Jamshedpur, Dec 13: Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) vice president (Public Relation and Welfare) Mukesh Mittal has sent a letter to the Special Officer of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) demanding relief for small city traders from anti-plastic inspection drives.

Mittal said the JNAC officials were raiding the premises of small traders in the name of searching for prohibited plastic bags and imposing heavy fines on them. Instead of targeting small traders, he said, the JNAC should stop the production and supply of plastic.

“The district administration should stop the production of plastic and also prevent its supply in the district. Those who are responsible for patronizing the plastic business should be acted upon and smaller traders should be spared. The municipal body is only collecting fines through continuous raids. Despite the ban, plastics are still being recovered from traders,” said Mittal.

Mittal said he had sent the copies of the letter to Health Minister Banna Gupta, MP of Jamshedpur Bidyut Baran Mahato, MLA Saryu Roy, MLA Mangal Kalindi and Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum.
