East Singhbhum district administration launches drive against illegal mining

Jamshedpur, Dec 13: East Singhbhum district administration launched an intensive campaign against illegal mining late Monday night. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Vijaya Jadhav led a team comprising mining and transport department officials. A total of 22 heavy vehicles were seized till Tuesday 5 am and a fine of Rs 8 lakh in aggregate was imposed on their owners.

Sources said separate teams conducted the checking drive in Dhalbhum and Ghatsila sub divisions. Both teams received instructions and guidance from the DC. District Transport Officer (DTO) Dinesh Ranjan, SDO Satyavir Rajak, executive magistrate Jaiprakash Karmali and Ghatsila CO Rajeev Kumar were present during the drive. The seized vehicles carried sand, stone chips, slag and iron ore. They were confiscated in Sakchi, Birsanagar, Parsudih and Galudih police station areas and taken to the local police stations.

The DC said the district administration would not allow illegal mining activities to take place anywhere in East Singhbhum. She said the campaign would continue indefinitely.
