Jamshedpur, July 26: Former Jharkhand Minister and Jamshedpur East’s Independent MLA Saryu Roy had raised a question on the legitimacy of the infamous ‘Toffee-T shirt’ deal that had been requisitioned by the then state government for distribution among school children during the Jharkhand Divas celebration in 2016. Now, Congress national spokesman and former MP Dr Ajoy Kumar has raised the issue and in a letter to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has demanded a high level enquiry to be conducted by an impartial agency.
In his letter to the Jharkhand Chief Minister, the Congress national spokesman mentioned that reports of ambiguity in the purchase of toffee and T shirts for distribution among school students on the occasion of Jharkhand divas in 2016 had come to light. Dr Ajoy Kumar stated in his letter that first the Manhart controversy and then the toffee-Tshirt controversy have put a big question mark on the functioning of the Raghubar Das government at that point and period of time and demanded an immediate enquiry so that the facts came to light and appropriate action could be taken against those responsible for the irregularities in both instances.
It may be mentioned that during the celebration of Jharkhand Divas in 2016, toffee and T shirts were to be distributed among school students in the state but in 9,000 schools in Jharkhand, these were not distributed but in all official records and files they have been marked otherwise. Doubts have been raised on how such large quantities could be distributed in the space of such a short time.
The company or agency that supplied the materials had kept the GST Department in the dark on the deal. The registration numbers of trucks have been found to be bearing those of scooters and motorcycles.
