Jamshedpur, March 12: With soaring temperatures triggering an acute drinking water shortage in rural areas, Potka MLA Sanjib Sardar has stepped up efforts to address the crisis by initiating tanker-based water supply in affected villages.
Acting on the MLA’s directions, a delegation met officials of Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited (formerly known as Jusco) and submitted a memorandum to Tata Steel UISL GM and Tata Steel CSR chief Sourav Roy, urging immediate intervention to ensure drinking water supply through tankers in several panchayats under the Jamshedpur block.
The delegation informed officials that more than 18 panchayats in the block are currently grappling with a severe drinking water shortage. With groundwater levels dropping sharply, villagers are struggling to access safe and clean drinking water, leading to growing distress in rural communities.
The memorandum also highlighted that MLA Sardar has already arranged five drinking water tankers across the constituency using funds from his MLA development allocation, providing partial relief in some areas. However, the worsening summer conditions have intensified the demand for water, making the existing arrangements insufficient.
The delegation therefore requested the deployment of at least ten additional tankers to ensure regular water supply in the worst-affected panchayats.
Taking note of the situation, Sourav Roy assured the delegation that steps would be taken to facilitate drinking water supply through additional tankers.
Those present in the delegation included the MLA’s personal secretary Manohar Munda, Mukhiya Mayawati Tudu, Manoj Naha, Saraswati Tudu, Panchayat Samiti member Sunil Gupta and several other local representatives.
