Jamshedpur: The impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has reached the kitchens of local healthcare facilities. Faced with a sudden depletion of LPG stocks, Sadar Hospital in Parsudih was forced to prepare meals for patients on traditional coal stoves this Friday.
Emergency Measures for Patient Meals
The hospital’s canteen ran out of gas late Thursday evening, prompting management to find an immediate alternative. To ensure that the 100 to 150 patients and their families did not go hungry, canteen staff worked through the night to construct a large, temporary coal stove on the hospital premises.
-
Impact on Schedule: While the switch ensured food was available, the transition caused slight delays, with breakfast and lunch reaching patients later than usual.
-
Temporary Solution: Canteen Manager Omkar Prasad stated that the coal stoves will remain in use until the gas supply stabilizes. “We are making every effort to ensure patients receive their meals on time despite these challenges,” he noted.
MGM Hospital Faces Similar Threat
The crisis isn’t limited to Sadar Hospital. MGM Medical College and Hospital, the city’s largest government healthcare facility, reports a dwindling supply.
-
Current Stock: MGM currently has only three days of LPG remaining.
-
Private Hospitals: Several private clinics in Jamshedpur have also expressed concern over the supply chain, with many beginning to scout for alternative cooking methods to avoid service disruptions.
Patient Feedback
While grateful for the meals, patients have noted the delays. “Breakfast arrived late today. Many of us depend entirely on the hospital kitchen, so timely meals are essential,” said Dheeraj Hansda, a patient at Sadar Hospital.
