Jamshedpur: The festival of sacred bond between brother and sister- Rakshabandhan has made postal department of Jamshedpur geared up for the occasion.
The department has registered brisk business this season.
According to information, the postal authorities had prepared water-proof envelopes. The department had provided each post office with special envelopes that can carry rakhis and letters safely even in times of bad weather.
Like previous years, the postal department has launched special envelopes for sending ‘Rakhis’ on the auspicious occasion of the ensuing ‘Raksha Bandhan’.
These envelopes are available in four designs, pre-gummed with a peel-off strip seal mechanism, to ensure proper and safe delivery of ‘Rakhis’ . These envelopes are water and tear-resistant.
A senior Jamshedpur Post Office, Bistupur said that every day over thousand such rakhis were transported from the city. Despite technology ruling the market people still rely of the post.
We have not yet calculated the figures but we are confident that the business has doubled this time. Keeping in mind the overwhelming response, more staff have been deployed to handle rush of people at post offices during Raksha Bandhan, he added.
Postal officials also said that people also used the services of Speed Post this time, which means additional revenue for the department.
A month before people had started sending rakhis through post since this is the only reliable medium. Even though water proof envelopes, were sent along with other posts but we had ensured special care is taken while delivering them. Keeping in mind sentiments of people we had kept aside the rakhi cards and dispatched them before other posts, noted another senior official.
He added that the post offices across the city had made full arrangements to play the perfect messenger.
My brother studies in Mumbai and like every year this time too I sent him a designer rakhi through Speed Post.
Despite the fact that e-rakhis are rage these days but still I rely on the traditional thread and what better way to send it than post. Raksha Bandhan strengthens the bond and firms the loving fraternal relationship between brother and sister , said Rekha Tripathy, a resident of Bistupur.
Meanwhile the traditional festival was celebrated with fun and enthusiasm in the city today. People were seen making last minutes purchases as the market was flooded with buyers.
Our city’s cosmopolitan nature adds more colors and joy to the festival as people of various communities who have made Jamshedpur their home celebrate the occasion in their own unique style and customs.
The market was buzzing with activities as people irrespective of religion thronged the market to grab the goodies lined up for the occasion, said Sunita Tapadia, a social worker.
