Jamshedpur: The police on Friday arrested two 20-year-old youths for shooting a builder Ashok Kumar Singh alias Raghav near Ram Mandir in Sonari on the evening of January 20, that led to injuries to the victim.
Those arrested were identified as Santosh Thakur and Rajkumar Singh, both residents of Jahira Colony in Sonari. The police recovered a 7.65 MM country pistol and two live cartridges from the possess of those arrested.
The victim who is a resident of Khuntadih in Sonari was shot at while he was returning from Ram Mandir. The victim had sustained three bullets injuries. He was rushed to Tata Main Hospital in a critical condition, but survived the bullet injuries by undergoing treatment for over a month-long treatment at the hospital.
Superintendent of police (city) Prashant Anand said that Raghav (45) was shot at and injured in matter related to an old enmity with the accused.
“The day the builder was shot at, a police team was involved to detect the case. During investigation, we got to know about the involvement of both Santosh and Rajkumar. But as the two would abscond, the police could not nab them despite making repeated raids at the house. On Wednesday night, we got a tip off that both the accused were in their houses,” informed SP.
Anand said as soon as they got the information about the presence of the duo, a police team led by officer-in-charge, Anuj Kumar raided their houses and nabbed them.
“When we interrogated at the Sonari Police station, both the youths admitted that they had shot at Raghab as they had an enmity with him. The two accused, however, did not reveal the reason behind the enimty,” said the senior police officer.
The city SP said Santosh Thakur accepted that he had fired at a 40-year-old man, Sambhu Singh Sardar, near the Wireless office of the Sonari Aerodrome on February 17 night, but incidentally the shot missed the target.
