Jamshedpur : After arresting two criminals in connection with the October 15 loot in Bistupur, three more criminals are now in the police net, making the total number of arrests made so far to five.
The police have also seized two pistols and three cell-phones used in the crime.
Two of the criminals identified Mohammed Wasim and Mohammed Sultan were nabbed from Siwan district in Bihar on Sunday night, where as the third one, Mohit Singh, whose name was figured in the loot on Sunday night had already surrendered before the court in connection with an old case pending against him.
Three bike-borne criminals had decamped with Rs 1.5 lakh from a staff of a Bistupur-based fish trader by inflicting gun-shot injuries on October 16 morning. The victim, Shivji Shah (45) was returning to his office located on the premises of Bistupur mosque in the morning when the incident took place.
According to information, those arrested so far were not only involved in the loot of Rs 1.5 lakh committed at Bistupur, but were also involved in an attempted loot taken place near Dimna Chowk under MGM thana area on October 20 evening.
Senior superintendent of police Anoop T Mathew said that in the loot committed at Bistupur and in the attempted loot at Dimna Chowk in all eight persons were involved.
“We have already arrested five, where as three others are still absconding. We are trying our best to arrest the trio soon, thus making all members of this newly-formed gang behind the bar,” said Mathew.
He said they first arrested Lallu Singh and Mohan Sharma on Saturday night and sent them to the judicial custody on Sunday after interrogation. On the basis of the interrogation, they could know that Washim (25) and Sultan (28), who are residents of Jugsalai, had fled the city and have gone over to Siwan.
Mathew said the Sultan is the leader of the gang who would till two years back sell fish in the Bistupur fist market. It was after getting to know that every day a big amount change hands among the fish traders every morning, he had conspired to commit the loot at Bistupur.
