Police, mining dept seize eight tractors engaged in illegal sand mining

Chaibasa: The Jagannathpur police and the mining department in a combined operation based on a secret tip off raided the banks of Kangira River and seized eight tractors being loaded with illegally mined sand. The drivers and the handymen engaged in loading the trailer tractors managed to escape. On their way back from the river bank, they stopped a dumper carrying stone chips that had been collected from an illegally operated quarry and seized it. Jagannathpur DSP Pradip Oraon informed that sand mining had been banned in Jharkhand but was being carried out illegally by the jopint enterprise of smugglers of Odisha and West Singhbhum district. he said that the raid had been conducted on a secret tip off. FIRs have been lodged against the tractor owners of whom a majority belongs to Keonjhar district of Odisha.
