Potka: District police foiled an attempt to disturb communal harmony and tranquillity in Haldipokhar under Kowali police station area on the occasion of Eid on Saturday. An FIR has been registered against unidentified persons in this connection.
Sources said unidentified miscreants tried to burn a boutique situated in the Haldipokhar market late yesterday night. When the shop owner, Mohammad Aftab opened his shop this morning, he found the mat and part of an almirah burnt partially. It became clear that someone had tried to set the shop on fire from beneath the closed shutter.
No sooner did the news spread in the area, a huge crowd gathered outside the boutique. Local residents took to the streets and created ruckus while demanding action against the culprits.
The village Mukhiya Syed Zabiullah reached the scene and persuaded the protetors to call off the agitation. Later, SDO Dhalbhum Madhavi Mishra and DSP Mosabani Ajit Kumar Bimal reached Haldipokhar and held a meeting with the Mukhiya and other local residents. The SDO said the incident was the handiwork of anti-social elements. She assured to take stringent action against the culprits.
A heavy deployment of armed forces was made at Haldipokhar market after the incident. Senior cops held a meeting with local peace committee members and sought their cooperation in keeping peace.
