Jamshedpur, June 16 : Tribal outfits Adivasi Sengel Abhiyan and Jharkhand Disom Party have called Jharkhand bandh on June 18 approval of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Jharkhand Amendment) Act, 2017.

In a communiqu issued by the tribal outfits, the leaders said that Presidents approval of the land acquisition amendment bill is a death warrant for the tribals. The tribal outfits have decried the land acquisition act for negating the role of gram sabhas and doing away with the clause of social impact assessments of projects for which land would be acquired.

” The act is a death warrant for the tribal people. The government will now have the authority to forcibly take away anyone’s land in the name of development. We have called bandh in protest against the move,” said former MP and Adivasi Sengel Abhiyan president Salkhan Murmu. He said the BJP-led government was misusing its majority to oblige a select group of people.

He said that the State government came on the back foot on CNT issue. Similarly all the tribal parties should come on common platform to safeguard tribal community.

Murmu, said: “Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar in November 2000 to safeguard the interest of tribals. It is surprising that the government has not taken adequate steps to protect them and never implemented the CNT Act properly. This has forced us to launch agitations to create pressure on the government,” said Murmu.
