Jamshedpur: Joint teams of East Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan police today detained four persons in connection with the SMS threat issued to the Chief Minister and DGP of Jharkhand yesterday.
The accused persons were identified as Prabhash Mishra, Arun Agrawal, Ayush and Babloo, all local residents. They were nabbed from different city parts in a joint raid conducted by police following orders from the state police headquarters, said SP (city) Kartik S.
The DGP, Rajiv Kumar, on Tuesday night received an SMS threatening to kill him and chief minister Hemant Soren if the anti-Naxalite operations in the state is not stopped immediately. Jharkhand is one of the worst Maoist-hit states in the country and police have been engaged in anti-Red operations across the 24 districts.
“I have received the SMS threatening to kill me and the chief minister. Prima-facie it does not appear to be a hoax SMS,” said the DGP.
The SMS sent from 918407092840 read: “Rajiv Kumar DGP stop naxal operation or I kill U and ur CM Hemant Soren”. The DGP said, “I am not afraid of the threat and Jharkhand police will continue to carry out the anti-Maoist operations in the state. In fact the operations would be intensified against them.”
The DGP had instructed the special branch of police to find out the source of the threat call.
A couple of weeks ago, Kumar had led an intensive anti-Naxalite combing operation in Saranda, the erstwhile headquarters of the Eastern Regional Bureau of the CPI (Maoists), in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.
