Jamshedpur, June 2 : The police busted a gang of thieves by arresting four persons on Sunday. Those arrested include Ritiwik Rai of Sitaramdera, Pritam Kumar Jha of Godda, Chintu Kumar of Mango and Mehtab Alam of Sakchi.

The police recovered a television set, smartphones, pistol, bike camera, one kilogram of silver and live cartiladge, from the possession of the thieves. Those arrested were involved in robbery at the residence of Munna Prasad Sah on May 27 at Nilgiri Colony under Olidih police station. At gun point the robbers had looted television, jewellery and other valuables from the house.

SSP, Anoop Birtharay said that a special team was formed to bust the gang. Acting on a tip off, the police party rushed to the spot and on seeing the police van, the thieves started fleeing. But the police chased them and nabbed one after another. On being interrogated, those nabbed confessed that they were planning to commit theft. When they were further interrogated, leading them to divulge that they had committed theft at Olidih.
“There has been a spurt in petty crimes in the city. We have been successful in arresting quite a few thieves involved in the reported cases but I think there is a need to ensure proper night watch. We are planning to increase the movement of mobile police and vigil,” noted a police official.
He went on to add that maximum cases of thefts have been reported from Bistupur, Sakchi and Golmuri areas this year. The police would increase vigil in these areas.
