Jamshedpur, March 16: Police on Thursday arrested three youths for allegedly trying to extort Rs 1 crore as `rangdaari’ from a Sakchi-based laptop dealer having threatening him and his family members with dire consequence.
Those arrested were identified as Piu Lohar (30), a resident of Ulyan in Kadma, Rajendra Rai Bhuiyan (28) and Budhu Karmakar (35), both residents of Adityapur.
The police have recovered five cell-phones and several SIM cards from their possession. The accused had made extortion calls from those cell-phones and also had sent Whatsapp message to the laptop dealer, Amit Kumar Gupta, from February 27 to March 10.
The SIM cards of these cell-phone were made on the basis of fake Id Proof, it was getting difficult for the police to detect the accused.
The police which had already received a verbal complaint from the victim on February 27, asked him to pay the accused Rs 10,000 through PayTM.
As they received the amount through PayTM, they police traced the number registered with the PayTM account and detected the accused.
Superintendent of police (city) Prashant Anand said that the three accused to have confessed their crime and also revealed how they had tried to extort Rs 1 crore from Gupta.
” The accused, Piu Lohar was a staff of the Narayani Electronics. A year ago, the management of the shop had sacked Lohar. After getting fired, Lohar had decided to teach Gupta a lesson,” said Anand.
The City SP said Lohar along with his brother-in-law Budhu Karmakar. The duo later contacted Rajendra Rai Bhuiyan who has expertise in software and mobile phone services.
The senior police officer said they asked the victim to pay Rs 10,000 through PayTM. The transaction was made on March 10. Soon the police set up a special team which derived the PayTM account number of the accused. The police arrested the youths today.
