Jamshedpur: A review meeting on the PM Nutrition Scheme was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal at the Collectorate office. The meeting focused on improving the nutritional status of school and Anganwadi children, ensuring regular health checkups, and reviewing the infrastructure for meal preparation.
Key officials, including Deputy Development Commissioner Aniket Sachan, SDO Dhalbhum Shatabdi Majumdar, District Education Officer Manoj Kumar, District Education Superintendent Ashish Pandey, District Social Welfare Officer Sandhya Rani, and other stakeholders, attended the meeting.
The DM-DC stressed the importance of children’s health and nutrition, directing officials to conduct regular health checkups under the National Child Health Program as per a fixed timetable. He instructed the Education and Health Departments to work in coordination to ensure children receive nutritious meals and proper healthcare.
To combat malnutrition, the administration emphasized including locally available seasonal vegetables, fruits, and grains in school menus. The need for continuous monitoring of children’s nutrition levels was also discussed.
The condition of school kitchens was reviewed to ensure clean and hygienic cooking environments. It was revealed that 220 kitchen sheds were constructed in 2022-23, while 278 new sheds are planned. The DM-DC directed the Education Department to increase the proposal for additional kitchen sheds using DMFT funds.
Additionally, the electrification status of building less Anganwadi centers was assessed, with instructions given for necessary improvements.
“The meeting reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to enhancing the PM Nutrition Scheme for school children and Anganwadi beneficiaries. Officials assured strict implementation of guidelines to improve children’s nutrition, health, and meal infrastructure. With strong coordination among departments, the administration aims to strengthen the nutrition program and provide a healthier future for children,” said an official.
