PM Drone Didi program launched in Jharkhand, empowering women farmers through technology

Seraikela: In a significant step toward revolutionizing agriculture, Jharkhand is set to deploy drones for crop management, with a focus on empowering women farmers. The initiative, known as the PM Drone Didi program, was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through a virtual event from New Delhi. Union Minister for Tribal Affairs and local MP Arjun Munda actively participated in the program, connecting directly from Damadiri Archery Maidan in Kharsawan.

Under this scheme, Prime Minister Mahila Kisan Drone Centers will be established across various locations. Women associated with self-help groups (SHGs) will operate the drones to provide farmers with convenient and advanced farming solutions. The drones will play a crucial role in spraying fertilizers, pesticides, conducting surveys, and even sowing seeds in fields.
The Central Government aims to distribute 15,000 drones to women self-help groups nationwide over the next three years, allocating a budget of Rs 1261 crore for the financial years 2024-25 and 2025-26. The initiative also includes comprehensive training for women to operate and fly the drones effectively.

A live demonstration of the drone technology took place at Damadiri Archery Maidan in Kharsawan, showcasing the spraying of chemicals and fertilizers in fields. Farmers, SHG representatives, and members of the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) witnessed the demonstration, gaining insights into the potential benefits of the drone-based agricultural approach.
Speaking at the event, Arjun Munda referred to the scheme as “Namo Drone Didi” and highlighted its role in empowering women self-help groups. The initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to promote technology adoption in agriculture, fostering the empowerment of farmers and women. The deployment of drones in agriculture is a significant stride toward achieving developmental goals and enhancing the livelihoods of women associated with SHGs.
