Jamshedpur: Several residents of Samata Nagar at Olidih under Jamshedpur West Assembly constituency here on Thursday complained about certain plumbers providing water connection to their households in an unauthorized manner.
The residents alleged that some plumbers had provided water connection to several households by charging an amount more than the amount prescribed for the purpose by the Mango Notified Area Committee. Also, no receipt was given by the plumbers to anyone. This led the household owners to suspect the intentions of the plumbers and approach the local Bharatiya Janata Party leaders with the complaint.
A delegation led by Sandhya Nandi, representative of Jamshedpur West MLA, visited the locality to probe into the allegations. Many BJP leaders reached the locality and cautioned the residents against being duped by anyone in the name of water connection.
They informed the local MLA cum state Food Minister Saryu Rai about the allegations.
A local resident, Salo Munda, alleged that a plumber, one Raham Gul, had provided water connection to his house against a payment of Rs 6000. The Mango Notified Area Committee has however fixed a total price of Rs 4100 for each connection.
Sources said around 50 households had paid Rs 4100 and were awaiting water connection.
