Jamshedpur, Aug 20: Continuing its drive against single-use plastic, Mango Municipal Corporation conducted a surprise inspection on Dimna Road and nearby areas on Tuesday. During the operation, officials seized around 5 kilograms of plastic material and collected a fine of ?2,900 from violators.

The raid was carried out under the direction of Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar. Officials warned street vendors, shopkeepers and establishment owners found with plastic items, as well as those operating without valid trade licenses.

“They have been clearly instructed not to use or distribute plastic items. If any vendor or shopkeeper is caught again, their trade or vendor license will be cancelled,” an official from the corporation stated.

The corporation has appealed to wholesalers and retailers to avoid the use of plastic and instead switch to eco-friendly alternatives. Despite continuous awareness campaigns and miking for the past eight months, officials noted that plastic is still being found in several shops, prompting the imposition of penalties.

Nodal officers along with staff members including Pradeep Kumar, Rohit Ekka and Sujit Kumar Singh were present during the drive.
